Meeting on irc.gnome.org:#gtk-devel Meeting started February 7 2005 16:03 EST (21:03 UTC) In attendence: Owen Taylor (owen), Manish Singh (yosh), Matthias Clasen (mclasen), Federico Mena Quintero (federico), Shawn T. Amundson (snorfle), Robert Ă–gren (roboros), Tor Lillqvist (tml), John Ehresman (jpe), Bill Hanemann (billh) hey together before we start: I have invited billh to the next meeting to discuss gail, which means that we'll probably move next mondays meeting to late morning (EST) what is better, 11:00 EST or 13:00 EST ? * mclasen thinks that 12:00 might lead to scheduling conflicts... so, do we have any topics, besides the one I mentioned in the mail ? ok, so the topic I want to discuss is the format of .gtk-bookmarks Do we consider it a private interface even though gnome-panel has started parsing it ? oh my god they have? no fuck them it's totally a private interface they show bookmarks in the places menu man, it's so nice that they notified gtk-devel-list about this * federico groans the panel maintainers have hopefully considered the consequences of relying on private interfaces before accepting that patch it makes me wonder if we should document .gtk-bookmarks explicitly as a private interface that is subject to change although changing it is not trivial even for our internal use, since the gnome-vfs backend also parses it I would like to change the .gtk-bookmarks format to allow associating labels with bookmarks yeah, for setting explicit names we actually need a public api for bookmarks that everyone uses well federico: I was thinking that something like gtk_file_chooser_list_bookmarks() would allow the panel to avoid parsing but they also monitor the file, which the file chooser backends don't the vfs backend could monitor it and emit bookmarks-changed; that's just an implemenation detail agreed, but bookmarks-changed is only a backend signal, not public api mclasen: it's easy to create a featureful GtkBookmarks class; can we add it within the 2.6 series? (... that is public, that is also used by the file chooser, and perhaps then the bookmarks-related stuff in the filesystem backends can go away, but what about Windows?) * mclasen doesn't even know what the windows backend does with bookmarks it uses a dotfile; ideally it should use the shell API or something federico: I don't think GtkBookmarks should go into 2.6 I was hoping to implement bookmark renaming within 2.6 :( * tml doesn't really know either federico: lets keep it stable; the 2.4 series was less than perfect in that regard, I we can do better for 2.6 * tml knows that the gtkfilesystemwin32 code was perhaps copy-oasted too early from gtkfilesystemunix , whicih then changed hi hi bill hi mclasen. I'll be here a while if anyone wants to discuss the gail->gtk+ proposal billh: one question I brought up last week, which was left unanswered, is: Does gail work on win32 ? does it do anything useful there ? it should work there fine, but nobody's listening to the ATK interfaces at this time. i.e. it should work, but there aren't any clients for the APIs yet billh: another question is if the a11y team would still be willing to help with maintainance of gail-in-gtk, since none of us knows the gail code and the implemented interfaces very well of course I'd be willing to assist, as much as I can - Padraig's not working on gail any longer though, so it's just me ATM. ooh, gail has only 11 bugs * billh looks so, if nobody speaks up against this merge, what are the logistics ? Do we target this for 2.8 ? i would think so ok, I'll update www.gtk.org/plan/2.8 to reflect that, I guess we can work out the details of cvs surgery, etc offline coming back to bookmarks...federico, did you try my patch for renaming bookmarks ? yes. One thing to note is that libgail-gnome (whose sole bug is currently logged against atk/gail) wouldn't be moving into gtk+, so I guess it needs its own bugzilla category noted federico: while implementing the popup menu on the shortcuts list I noticed that the popup menu on the file list is not a real context menu either. it doesn't operate on the clicked row, but on the selection I made the bookmarks popup operate in the same way, since mixing behaviours on the two sides of the paned would be confusing, I guess but maybe both should be real context menus ? I'm being dragged out now, see you next week. Meeting ended February 7, 16:52 EST (21:52 UTC)
